Mission: This I'll Defend

An evolutionary author in the making, from humble beginnings born from parents who were sharecroppers in Georgia during the Jim Crow era.”

LOVINGLY AND ORDERLY

Theodore (Ted) Shorter Jr.

Lovingly and Orderly is a story with humility, grace and intention.

The intention of the author in writing this heartfelt account of his life is because God had given him a mission to fulfill from the day he entered into the world as his mother’s first and only devoted son

Unfortunately, in the United States of America, black people were to be seen and not heard. Considered as three-fifths of a person and unable to ask any questions, you were to just learn your lessons and accept your wretched fate in life. The rules that apply for others in our society don’t apply to me because of the color of my skin.

That is why the commitment to truth telling with this story has to be told. Lovingly and Orderly: A Son’s Lament exemplifies commitment to building institutions that help us understand the harms of history which are so important. In that way, we can learn from our mistakes and never forget the impact of injustice on humanity. Marginalized people without hope are a part of a tragedy that shouldn’t be allowed to continue.

In the land of the free and the home of the brave, giving up is not an option for me because my ancestors fought so hard for me. This book is an acknowledgement of them that gave me the voice to put into words. God gave me a story to write about that no one could write but me.

Excerpt from the book

Cowardly Sister Chapter IX. in Lovingly and Orderly A Son’s Lament

Phil Bizar (attorney) inquired, “Doesn’t she normally sign her name Pauline K. Shorter?”

Through his inquiry, Phil was attempting to cite the fact that the forged signature on the fraudulent quitclaim deed filed with the Recorder of Deeds, the letter “K.” was ommited from my mother’s name.

Pam responded, “She has had documents where she written in she sign Pauline K. Shorter, that is correct.”

“You are familiar with your mother’s signature?” Phil inquired emphatically again.
“I am familiar with my mother’s signature,” Pam stated definitely.
“But you can’t tell me if that’s her signature or not?”

At this stage during the deposition. Phil was resolute in his tactics to persuade Pam into revealing the secret thoughts in the recesses of her mind after she refused to openly admit that our mother signature was forged on Exhibit No.1 by Rosamond.

Pam’s responses during this phase of her deposition were a classic example of the code of silence, which are all too familiar attitudes of the residents in the ghetto in the reporting of crime in the African American community. It was noticeably clear that Pam lacked the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing by reporting the criminal activity that adversely impacted our deceased mother’s estate.
Pam had a morbid loyalty to Rosamond after our mother’s death, which was the source of her lack of backbone in answering Phil’s inquiry unequivocally.
Pam responded evasively and rhythmically repeatedly repeatedly repeated her previous response to the question and said, “I cannot say whether that’s her signature or not. I wasn’t there so I couldn’t say!”
After Phil began that Pam was prevaricating because of her cowardly demeanor and refused to implicate Rosamond, he began to focus in on Pam’s direct association inscribed on the fraudulent quitclaim deed.
Phil inquired, “Now, if you look back to the first page there, can you read me the first two sentences?”
“The grantor,” Pam said.
“Yes,” said Phil, confirming the sentences that he requested Pam to read during this sequence of her deposition.
“Pauline Shorter,” Pam read glancing up at Phil to confirm the section on the fraudulent quitclaim deed that he instructed Pam to read out loud.
Pam continued to recite, “divorced and not since remarried of the City of Chicago, County of Cook State of Illinois, for and in consideration of TEN &00/100 DOLLARS and other good and valuable consideration in hand paid, CONVEYS(S) to Paula Martin one quarter interest and Pamela Mannie one quarter interest, one quarter interest and Rosamond Shorter-Lewis one quarter interest and John Shorter one quarter interest.”
“That’s good right there,” Phil responded after Pam read the bogus clause on the fraudulent quitclaim deed.
“Okay,” Pam replied.
“Now one of these names is yours Pamela Mannie, is that correct?”
“That’s correct,” Pam answered.
“And it says that you are going to get one quarter interest in the property at 1318 Heath, okay?”
“Okay,” Pam responded.
“Are you aware of that?”
“I was not aware of this until Mr. Shorter, Theodore Shorter, informed me that this existed.”
